The concept for the official City of Milpitas Seal grew out of a resistance in the early 1960’s to a ballot measure that would force Milpitas to be annexed into the City of San Jose. Milpitas leaders likened their battle to the United States’ Revolutionary War for independence. They called themselves the Milpitas Minutemen and the Minuteman symbol was eventually incorporated into the City Seal. The seal also depicts the Milpitas hillsides in the background and a plow to represent Milpitas’ agricultural roots.
