STREET TREE PROGRAM
The street trees in your neighborhood are part of the City's urban forest. In addition to their beauty, street trees provide shade cooling our homes in the summer, as well as a buffer from cold winds in the winter. Trees help filter dust and pollution from the air, provide a habitat for birds and wildlife, and are endearing to our childhood memories. Trees may add as much as 20% to the value of your home if properly maintained.
The success of the City's Street Tree Program is dependent on the interest and concern of the community. Without regular attention and care, City street trees have little chance to survive. The City's Street Tree Program provides regular pruning of City street trees, and treatment for pests and diseases. City crews follow a pruning cycle to insure that each City street tree is pruned in rotation to maintain a healthy urban forest. When City street trees are lost due to drought or disease, they can be replaced.
