Milpitas City Council -
 Welcome

Milpitas City Hall

The City of Milpitas was incorporated as a "general law" city on January 26, 1954 and operates under the council/manager form of government.  The Council, as the legislative body, represents the entire community and is empowered by the general laws of the State of California to formulate city-wide policy.

The Mayor is elected by the community for a two-year term and the four Councilmembers are elected at large (by the entire City) to serve staggered four-year terms. Council elections are held in November of even-numbered years.

PARTICIPATION IN CITY COUNCIL DELIBERATIONS

Citizen participation at Council meetings is encouraged. Regular City Council meetings are held at 7:00 PM on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month in the City Hall Council Chambers.

Council meeting agendas and minutes may be reviewed by clicking on the appropriate button at the left side of this screen. Agenda information is also available by calling the "Agenda Hotline" at (408) 586-3010. Extra agenda copies are available on the night of the Council meeting in the distribution racks located next to the Council Chambers' entrance doors. In addition, complete agenda packets, including the supporting staff reports, are available for review in the City Clerk's office and at the Milpitas Library on the Friday before each Council meeting. If you would like a paper copy of the agenda prior to the meeting, please stop by the Information Desk on the first floor at City Hall where copies are available.

Every effort is made to assure that citizens have ample opportunity to address the Council on items of individual or community concern.

Persons who wish to address the Council on an unagendized item may do so during the "Public Forum" section of the agenda at the beginning of each meeting. Upon arriving at the podium, state your name and city of residence for the Clerk's record and limit remarks to three minutes. As an unagendized item, the Council may not take action; however, it may agendize the item for a future meeting.

Those who desire to speak at a Public Hearing may do so once the hearing has been opened by the Mayor and the staff has completed its report. When addressing the Council, keep your presentation brief. Also, keep in mind that the City Council usually has other business to conduct at its meetings within a limited time.

Those who would like the Council to agendize an item may send a formal written request to the Milpitas Mayor, 455 E. Calaveras Boulevard, Milpitas, CA 95035 or may send an email . The request will be reviewed by the Mayor and the citizen will be notified of the result of this review.
