Rainbow Theatre Auditions
Auditions are open to youth ages 8-18 (ages 12-18 for the Teen productions, and ages 8-20 for the summer musicals). Auditions take place at the Milpitas Community Center, 457 East Calaveras Boulevard
When arriving for auditions, children will fill out a Cast Information Form, receive a portion of the script, and be given a few minutes to become familiar with the scene. Children will enter the audition area in small groups and perform the short scene.
When auditioning for musicals, children will also sing and dance. Children should come with a prepared song that demonstrates their personality and potential, and that they are comfortable with. Please bring the song’s sheet music (accompanist is provided). Should sheet music not be available, a CD or tape of the song without lyrics is also acceptable. Should neither be available, children will be asked to sing a standard song, such as “Happy Birthday” or “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star” with the musical accompanist.
Some auditions will include callbacks. Should a child be called back, he/she will be required to read more scenes and sing more songs. If an auditioner does not receive a “callback,” it does not mean that he/she did not receive a part in the play.
Once cast, participants attend rehearsals according to a schedule distributed for each production. Rehearsals are generally held Monday-Thursday, 4:00-6:00 pm at the Community Center (some shows may deviate from this schedule). Technical Rehearsals are held the week of opening night 4:00-8:00 pm. (4:00-9:00 pm during summer musicals and Teen Shows).
Participation Fee:
The participation fee for Rainbow Theatre is $150 ($100 residents), and is due at the audition (please not cash). Participation fees will be returned to those not cast. All costume rental and/or purchase costs are in addition to the participation fee. *Please Note: Fees subject to change without notice.
