Rainbow Theatre Programs
Main Stage Productions:
Three shows a season for children aged 8-18 that focus on theatre basics and life skills: character development, movement, voice and diction, team work, time management, responsibility, building relationships and self-esteem through rehearsal and performance and of course...fun!
Teen Shows:
MRT Teen Show is designed to give youth, ages 12-18, a chance to do more challenging work in theater. Emphasis is placed on acting, improvisation and/or vocal harmony (when performing a musical).
Mini-Actors:
MRT Mini-Actors class is designed to give younger children, ages 5-8, a taste of what its like to be on stage, without having to audition. Rehearsals are generally held twice a week for approximately 4-6 weeks. The class concludes with a performance for family and friends. See the Activity Guide section for Mini-Actors classes.
Summer Drama Camp:
This is an opportunity for kids to sing and dance and put on a mini-show for an audience! No audition necessary, but positive attitudes are a must! Performance will be held at the end of the camp. Parents are responsible for costuming their own children per the director’s instructions.Ages 8-14.
School Performances:
MRT offers school performances to most of our regular productions. This is an opportunity for students to enjoy live theatre! Admission is $5 per person. All performances are held at the Milpitas Community Center, 457 East Calaveras Boulevard. School Season Brochure/Order Form
For Schools:
MRT wants to partner with schools in our community by providing performances at low cost to any class that wants to take a filed trip to our school performances. And by taking our satellite program to your school.
Satellite Shows
This program brings theatre into the Milpitas schools. Our staff travels to the designated school’s campus to hold rehearsals after school, using only children from that school. This offers an opportunity for children who may not otherwise have transportation to be a part of a show. Every child who wants to participate is cast and the registration fee is greatly reduced to encourage participation. The show is performed for the student body at assemblies during the day and is performed for the families and PTA on campus in the evening(s). Originally only for the elementary schools, the satellite program is now open to junior high and high schools as well. Thank you to TARGET for sponsoring the 2007-08 production at Weller Elementary School and 2008-2009 production at Sinnott Elementary School.
Scholarships:
MRT has been a part of hundreds of children’s lives since its inception. The Milpitas Rainbow Theatre Scholarship is an opportunity for Milpitas to reward students for their contributions to the community and to encourage them to continue to participate in the arts as they enter into adulthood.
