DeVries House

DeVries Place will provide 103 affordable senior housing apartments in a three-story podium design with parking at ground level. Combined efforts by the Milpitas Redevelopment Agency, Mid-Peninsula Housing Coalition and other funding agencies have made this project possible for seniors 62 years of age and older earning less than 40% of the median income.

The main building includes one studio, 89 one-bedroom, and nine two-bedroom units, as well as a two-bedroom manager’s apartment. Scroll down for construction photos.
Amenities at DeVries Place include a landscaped courtyard and generous indoor community spaces. The contemporary building style is a modern interpretation of the Prairie architectural style of the historic Dr. Smith-DeVries House, which has been integrated into the development.
Built in 1915, the Dr. Smith-DeVries House at 153 N. Main St. was relocated about 50 feet on the site closer to N. Main Street. The renovated DeVries House will include community rooms for residents, and three one-bedroom apartments on the second floor. The dining room will have its architectural features restored and be available for use by the City of Milpitas and local civic organizations.
