The new Milpitas Public Library involves three projects:  the library’s construction and historic building renovation, the Midtown Parking Garage, and the Streetscape.

April 28, 2007:  Elected officials ceremoniously break ground to begin library construction.

August 13, 2007:  A milestone for the library is celebrated with the “topping-off” of a steel beam at the highest portion of the south tower.

The “topping-off” beam was signed by members of the Milpitas Redevelopment Agency (Milpitas City Councilmembers).

February 2008: N. Main St. at Weller Ln., looking south east.  Construction is now over 50% complete.  Note south tower to right of historic building.


February 2008:  North Wing of library becoming weather tight.  Roofing & window installation are near completion.


February 2008:  Front view of North Wing.  Raised flooring, ventilation, electrical and plumbing work are being installed inside.


March 14, 2008:  Students from Milpitas High and Russell and Rancho Milpitas Middle Schools attended the “Education & Career Expo” hosted by the City of Milpitas and conducted by the Building Trades Council.  A tour group receives a guided tour from John Bursese, assistant superintendent for S.J. Amoroso Construction Company.


March 14, 2008: Students cut and fit pipe and then braze fittings.


March 14, 2008: Sheet metal journeymen explain how they create shapes from basic sheets of metal.


March 14, 2008:  Students get first hand experience using a welding torch to slice metal.


March 14, 2008:  Computer animation and joysticks are used to simulate using heavy equipment to dig and move earth into a dump truck.


April 10, 2008:  North Wing, first floor, Northwest corner (future "Children's Easy Reader" room) - window and bookcase openings.


April 10, 2008:  South Wing, looking Northeast (Future "New Books" area) - Installing metal stud framing.
