Manufacturing Manufacturing Day is an annual celebration of modern manufacturing meant to inspire the next generation of manufacturers.
On Friday, October 5th two local manufacturers headquartered in Milpitas, View – manufacturer of a new generation of smart windows, and Nanosys – leading developer of quantum dot technology for displays, will open their doors to students, educators, elected officials, and community representatives.
The Bay Area’s manufacturing sector is alive and thriving, bringing innovation, creativity, and stability to cities. Milpitas is home to 150 local companies dedicated to innovative design, engineering, and breakthrough manufacturing technology. Milpitas was ranked in the top 20 for patent generating cities in California in 2016, according to the Silicon Valley Institute for Regional Studies. More than one in five of the city’s workforce is employed in the manufacturing sector, twice the Bay Area average. As manufacturing evolves – getting cleaner, greener, and more advanced – it continues to help build strong local communities by providing pathways to good, middle-class jobs.
Manufacturing Day addresses common misperceptions about manufacturing by giving manufacturers an opportunity to open their doors and show, in a coordinated effort, what manufacturing is — and what it isn’t. By working together during and after Manufacturing Day, manufacturers will begin to address the skilled labor shortage they face, connect with future generations, take charge of the public image of manufacturing, and ensure the ongoing prosperity of the whole industry.
