Celebrate Earth Day With Us!

Join us for an our Earth Day celebration at Selwyn Park on Saturday, April 22 from 10 AM to 12 PM!

Participate in activities and watch demonstrations to learn about the City’s sustainability initiatives and programs to help you reduce waste, be more water and energy efficient, and more.

The Resource Fair will include activities and information that can help you make simple changes at home so you can save money and protect the environment. Don’t miss this opportunity to do your part and show your love for the Earth!

Enter Upcoming Student Contests!

Show your appreciation for the environment and enter our Earth Day Youth Essay Contest, sponsored by the Energy and Environmental Sustainability Commission, for a chance to win a Smart Power Strip and up to $150!

Essays should be between 300-500 words and should cover one of the following topics:

  • What invention would you uninvent that would benefit our environment by doing so?
  • Should all energy consumption be regulated by the government?
  • How do you think you could change your lifestyle to help benefit our planet?

The contest is open to all Milpitas students in grades 7-12. Essays should be submitted via email to climateaction@milpitas.gov by April 14, 2023 at 11:59 PM.

Winners will be selected from two divisions: Middle School (grades 7-8) and High School (grades 9-12).

Contest winners will be announced at the Earth Day event on April 22, 2023 and will be recognized at a future City Council meeting.

Make a splash and share your vision! Enter the Watershed Watch Earth Day Poster Challenge by creating artwork to answer one of the following questions:

  • What do YOU love about our local waterways (creeks, rivers, lakes)?
  • How can YOU prevent water pollution?

If you’re a student in grades K-8 in Santa Clara County, you are eligible to win up to $250 and have your art featured in storm water pollution prevention efforts to protect our creeks and the Bay. Submit your artwork by April 19, 2023 and find more contest details at www.mywatershedwatch.org/earthday!
